Next Book: The Lucky One

When I was looking for the last book: Into the Wild, I came across a book that looked really good. It was called The Lucky One by Nicholas Sparks. I read the back and almost got it on the spot but decided to wait since I was'nt sure if anyone might have already read it. Let me know what you guys think. Also I am right at the end of Into the Wild. I have enjoyed this book more that I thought I would at the beginning. It does jump around a lot but as I have continued to read, it has opened up and I feel like I have learned a lot about the wild that I didn't even realize I wanted to know. I will let you know when I finish it, how are you guys doing?~Sarah

So I finishe the book last night (Friday) and have to say that all in all I liked it. I would give it 3 stars because of how much it skipped around but the content was really good. By the end I felt that I had judged him harshly for being green and taking too many chances, but in the end I realized that he died because of a mistake that any experienced outdoorsman could have made. I loved the Franz character and am sad that Chris' parents were so hated by him for so long. I hope he had forgiven them before he died. It is such a shame for them I am sure, and I also feel that it is a shame that Chris couldn't find it in himself to forgive. Anyway, it was definately good and I am glad you chose it Rita.
I will pick up The Lucky One this weekend but am reading In a Sunburt Country between books until everyone has the new one. It is about Australia and I have been reading it on and off for ever. It is kind of a travel book about Australia and very funny and full of wild information. IT is a good book to fill in the blanks since it doesn't read like a novel. Anywho, let us know when your done Rita and what you think. ~Sarah

I forgot to say earlier that this book also made me want to read the books that Chris had read. Especially War and Peace by Tolstoy and Dr.Zhivago. I have read Jack London and thought Chris was a little obsessed with him, but agree that his books are awesome. ~sarah

I've never read a Jack London book but will watch out for one when I'm at the used book store or goodwill (this goodwill has lots of books)
Yes, I forgot to mention how heavy it weighed on my heart to imagine things from Chris' parent's view...how sad and difficult it must be to have a child go astray and away like Chris did, I pray I never experience that. I cried when they went to the bus, poor Mama her heart was just broken =(
In a Sunburnt Country sounds good, especially since Jason has been to Australia several times and we plan to go together eventually, have to watch out for that one too.

OK so I got The Lucky One this weekend and am starting it today, MJ is napping now so lemme get to it =)
Just in case you are wondering~~Cindy has said that she is a little busy right now and plans to jump in when she can, I hope soon, she's a great friend and this bookclub was half her idea!!

Be Happy~~Rita

I also would never want to experience my child being so upset with me that they treat me the way Chris treated his parents. Though I can say from experience that I understand him being upset with them for the secrets they kept. My mom left my father and he killed himself. I have always been upset with my mom for the way she went about it but I know I must forgive her. Just makes me sad that my dad is not here to enjoy my kids. I still love the part with Ron Franz and that is one of the parts that just sticks out to me still. He was such a kind man and only wanted the best for Chris.
I have started The Lucky One and I really like it!! Jamie

This book is very good, I've found myself reading it standing at the stove while cooking LOL! Jamie, you are amazing...you finished it already sheesh. I already foresee myself reading more of Nicholas Sparks, this book has a great homey feel to it that I am enjoying. I have only seen the movies that have been adapted from his books and all 3 of them, Message in a Bottle, Walk to Remember, and The Notebook all blew me away and I left having wept at least once or twice and I wanna say I walked out of the theater still crying on the Notebook....anyways I'm not sure why I haven't read a book yet.
btw, has anyone seen the movie Time Traveler's Wife yet?

I just couldn't put it down. When Jesse got home from work around midnight I was sitting here reading it. He was trying to talk to me and I couldn't stop reading it! I felt bad but he totally understands. I also think I need to start reading his books. The Notebook is one of my favorite movies and of course I cry everytime I see it! He is an excellent writer!! No hurry on reading the book. I am going to read another book in between. I am really into reading again and am so happy. While I was pregnant I only read pregnancy stuff and looked up stuff on the internet since I had tons of problems. Then when the twins were born of course that was the last thing on my mind. Now I am so happy that I joined this book club! Thanks Rita!! Jamie

No I haven't seen that movie either but want to =)

OK, I've finished this book~~I'd have to say it was the most can't-put-down book I've read in a while. It was really neat that I was familiar with the location this book was set in--North Carolina, my husband and I spent 3 years in that area so I knew the places, that made it that much more neat to read. It already had such a sweet homey feel to it. I liked that it didn't cuss if so I don't remember, covered a range of emotions, had so much fun flirty humor I truly laughed out loud so much, was so easy to follow and read I truly just could not put it down!!! I kinda knew how the end would turn out but it was still a race to read all those last thrilling pages. I won't give any spoilers not sure where Sarah is yet!!
I think I'll give this one 5 stars, omy! I'm such a rating snob LOLOL

Now I'm reading Animal, Vegetable, Miracle as my 'inbetween' book.

OH I almost forgot, I found a wonderful quote in this book:
Page 174 end of that 1st paragraph

"....she was struck by the simple truth that sometimes the most ordinary things could be made extraordinary, simply by doing them with the right people."
love that =)

I felt the same way. I COULD NOT put this book down. It just grabbed my attention! I didnt expect what happened at the very end exactly the way it turned out. I will not ruin it for Sarah. Will talk more about it later. I would give it 5 STARS also!! I LOVED this book!!
Yes Rita.....I love that quote too!! Jamie

okay you guys, I have just started the book and am a little shocked that you two are already done....I picked this one. Sorry, but please feel free to move on to another book. I may be needing to take a break anyway, I have been under a bit of stress trying to figure out the move we are making this December. So many loose ends to tie up with getting back into school etc. not to mention the already busy life with 3 kids and a husband. I love the book so far and will probably finish it this week, but you dont have to wait for me. I can just skip the next one. I will let you know what I think of this book when I am done. I love all the movies that were made from his books, but didn't really know this was the same author until after I picked it. I am sure I will love it as much as you guys did. I will let you know. ~~Sarah

Sarah, I really wanted to read it leisurly and just could not do it, you will understand how we finished it so fast once you get into it more. I'm sure of it. I wasn't sure how Jamie finished it so fast then I got into it and stayed up really late reading because I just wanted to know what was next! I am actually reading a in between book that I am enjoying, Jamie is too I think. Take your time and don't feel pressure girl really that's not what this is about =) I totally understand about things being stressful, honestly I have my hands full with just 1 child and try to imagine how everyone with 2 or more does it.......I've doubled back on my ideas of having a big family and think we might just try for 1 more.....I just can't imagine myself with an entire flock, don't think I'm cut out for that =( Anyways, ENJOY the book at your own pace don't feel you have to rush OK!
Hugs~~Rita

So I did LOVE the Lucky One. Finished it last Friday and you guys were right, it was so good. I have started to read The Lovely Bones, which I have heard a lot about and know there is a movie coming out soon based on it. I am planning to take my time with it and not stress about finishing it quickly. I think a break would be great but have loved being a part of this reading group so far. Once we have our orders cut and I get school all squared away, I will definately be interested in starting up again. I will keep you updated on that and also let you know what I am reading in the meantime. Also Jaime, I was very tempted to buy The Last Song, by Nicholas Sparks. I am sure I am going to love all of his books, please let me know what you think of The Rescue. I will stay in touch. ~Sarah

I finished The Rescue and loved it too!! Thank You so much Sarah for picking a Nicholas Sparks book! Now I am hooked on his books. I went to Hastings and bought The Wedding and The Road to Rodanthe. I am going to start The Wedding tonight. Will let you guys know how it is. I noticed some of the stuff between the two books of his that I read makes me go back and think of the other book. I like that when you are reading his books you can picture the house they live in and picture what the characters look like. Jamie

I went back to get The Last Song but Costco was sold out. I agree that I think I will be hooked on his books as well. I finished The Lovely Bones, and it was really good. Strange and heartbreaking and not what you expect, but I loved it. I am now reading Glass Castles which is biography about a girl who was raised sleeping in her parents car and running from bill collectors her whole life until she finally grew up and escaped the life her parents gave her. Very overwhelming and great, I am only about 1/3 into it but really like it so far. I would definately recommend either book. Jaime, after your done with the Sparks books you just got, let me know which one to get first, and thanks for keeping us informed on what your reading. How about you Rita, reading something or too busy with the house? Hope to hear from you soon. Sarah
