Updates

So good to hear of you girl's reading adventures! I have been spending a lot of time on the house yes and we had a week visit from my motherNlaw for MJ's birthday, that was soooo great! Now for the past few days Marina has been awake about ever couple hours at night with some swollen gums and low fever--all 4 top teeth are making their debut. I've been napping with her in the day to catch up on sleep......sooooo haven't gotten in much reading =( boo. I am going to be getting more Sparks books too, really loved his writing!! My motherNlaw gave me Lovely Bones so I'll probably read that next. I've been slowly making my way through "The Read Aloud Handbook" I highly recommend that book to you girls WOW I've learned a lot from it about the benefits of reading aloud to your babies/children it's quite life changing (the book). I started it back before MJ was born and am now reading it more. Did you know that reading to your babies on a daily basis can teach them to read by the time they start kindergarten, no lessons on the alphabet or grammer just simply reading to them daily....we're testing that out =) OK naptime!! Have a great week yall =)

Cheap used books!

Here is a site I found tonight that has super cheap books, wow, take a look =)

Next Book: The Lucky One

When I was looking for the last book: Into the Wild, I came across a book that looked really good. It was called The Lucky One by Nicholas Sparks. I read the back and almost got it on the spot but decided to wait since I was'nt sure if anyone might have already read it. Let me know what you guys think. Also I am right at the end of Into the Wild. I have enjoyed this book more that I thought I would at the beginning. It does jump around a lot but as I have continued to read, it has opened up and I feel like I have learned a lot about the wild that I didn't even realize I wanted to know. I will let you know when I finish it, how are you guys doing?~Sarah

New Book: Into The Wild by Jon Krakauer

Has anyone read this book?? "Money, A Memoir"

I'm Officially Barefoot =)

Look what I got in the mail today =) Have you gotten yours yet Sarah?? How bout you Cindy?

waiting, waiting, waiting

OK so I decided I'd order a used copy from Amazon instead of going to the quicker and more convenient Borders Books.....well I'm still waiting for my book!!!!
waiting, waiting, waiting!!!!!

In the meantime I'm reading a little handy book called Simplify Your Life With Kids by Elaine St.James, really neat and probably fantastic for people with more than one child.....I'm just preparing myself =)

Hope everyone is enjoying their book!!!
Talk Soon, Rita

The next book......

So I guess I am the next person to pick a book. I still feel bad because I was retarded and missed the post about the first book! ha
Has anyone read Barefoot by Elin Hilderbrand? I thought it look like a good book by reading the back. She is the lady that wrote Summer Affair. That one looks good too. Just let me know!
I really enjoyed the book.  I thought about things that I have never really thought about before.  Like being the sibling of someone who you know will probably die or being born to help keep that sibling alive.  I found myself at times really not liking the mom.  Of course I can't imagine being in her shoes but I do find it ironic that Anna was the one created to save Kate and Anna ends up saving Kate but dies.  I didn't care for the Julie and Campbell thing.  I thought there were some things in the book that didn't really fit into the story and would of been better not being in there.  But that is just my opinion.  Overall I think the book was good.  It wasn't what I expected but it wasn't bad.       Cindy

My Sister's Keeper

Wow!!  I just finished reading the book tonight.  I don't want to say anything yet in case someone is still reading.     Cindy

Rating our Books =)

Here is a little example I found for rating the books we read:

Blah
1 Stars
A book we just really couldn't get into no matter how hard we tried.

It Was Okay
2 Stars
It Was Okay means exactly what it says - the book was only okay, nothing very special about it.

A Good Read
3 Stars
A Good Read is a book that we enjoyed reading. We won't put it on our personal top 5 list but we'd recommend it in the right situation.

Almost Fabulous
4 Stars
Almost Fabulous means we really liked this book for many reasons and it came close to receiving 5 stars, but fell a little short.

Fabulous!
5 Stars
Fabulous! is Fabulous! We loved it!

On choosing a book....

First off we'll go in alphabetical order by our 1st names for choosing books if that sounds good...so Cindy Davis will be 1st!

OK I found a great website about book clubs and this was some good tidbits on choosing a book that I thought I'd share!

The bottom line is this - you CAN'T please everyone!

So what can you do? Take into consideration the interests of your group. Do this by:

Looking at a bestseller list.

Asking for a recommendation.

Check out these recommendation lists:

Whatever way you go about finding a book you should keep in mind that you want to choose not only a book that you want to read but a book that you want to talk to other people about.

You can be original in your selection. Just be sure not to go so far in your own direction that nobody follows you! For example, unless your group is really ambitious War and Peace probably isn't the best choice!
